The Challenge: Environmental Vulnerability Meets Regulatory Evolution​

Salmon farming in Chile faces multiple challenges, including hypoxia events related to local environmental conditions.
Recent regulatory framework, led by the SMA, intends to support better visibility and understanding towards mitigating these risks

In this context, and back in 2023, the SMA and BiOceanOr partnered to pilot a predictive risk management solution – PREDIMAR – that would support better visibility and anticipation of low-oxygen trends in given regions (ACS) along the Chilean coastline. This early warning service aims at adjusting monitoring, operations and mitigation actions accordingly.

The Solution: Oxygen Forecasting Engine Trained on 200M+ Data Points

At the core of PREDIMAR is BiOceanOr’s AquaFORECAST engine, capable of predicting dissolved oxygen levels up to 48 hours in advance. AquaCHECK solution is also running to check consistency of input data.

The model uses:​

Real-time in-situ data​
Regional weather and oceanographic models​
AI/ML algorithms continuously refined with new field observations​
A user-friendly dynamic platform to access PREDIMAR services at ​

This offers to:​

early warning service at regional level (ACS)
pro-active mitigation options
local support at the right time​

A Franco-Chilean Collaboration with Global Impact​

PREDIMAR is much more than a technical deployment, it’s a model for cross-border environmental innovation. ​

With support from the French government and coordination between local producers, regulatory bodies and BIOceanOr’s Chilean team, the project bridges science, policy and practice in service of climate-resilient aquaculture.​
