The Port of Antwerp-Bruges recently welcomed the blue economy ecosystem for the Future of Blue Economy Forum 2026, a day dedicated to innovation and forward-thinking solutions for the maritime sector. At the FOBE Awards, BiOceanOr received the Jury Prize for its latest innovation: a new service designed for ports and coastal authorities, focusing on turbidity challenges.

A Jury Prize for Innovation and Impact

Pitched by Gaëtan Fabritius, Chief Commercial Officer at BiOceanOr, the solution was selected by the jury on five criteria:

Disruptive innovation
Scalability & market potential
Addressing an unmet need
Sustainability & European strategic value
Pitch quality & team vision
A big thank you to CCI France Belgique, organizer of the event, and to the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, De Blauwe Cluster, Business France Belgique & Luxembourg and Team France Export for their support!

Why Turbidity Matters for Ports and Coastal Areas

Turbidity is one of the key environmental parameters in ports, estuaries and coastal zones. Dredging, coastal and offshore construction works bring sediments into suspension, creating plumes that can reach sensitive areas: protected habitats, aquaculture farms, or water intakes.

To protect these environments, environmental permits increasingly set strict turbidity thresholds. Exceeding them can trigger corrective measures, additional monitoring, or even the suspension of works, with significant delays and costs. Yet turbidity naturally varies with weather conditions, tides and river discharge, so distinguishing natural variations from works-related impacts requires reliable data and expert analysis.

Our Proven Technology, Now Applied to Turbidity

This new service builds on BiOceanOr’s experience in the aquaculture sector and is adapted to the operational and regulatory requirements of port and coastal authorities:

AquaCHECK

24/7 checks on water quality data, flagging anomalies, outliers and missing values, so every decision and every report relies on trusted data

AquaLYTICS

Dynamic dashboards combining real-time and historical data at each monitoring station, to tell natural variations apart from works-related impacts

AquaFORECAST

Water quality forecasts up to 48h ahead, to anticipate threshold exceedances and adapt work schedules before conditions turn critical

The result: real-time monitoring, predictive insights, more efficient operations and solid support for regulatory reporting and environmental risk management. Our platform already processes over 10 million data points every month.

Expanding Across Europe

The solution is already deployed in France and will support the operational and regulatory requirements of several new customers in Europe over the coming months, from port operations to dredging, coastal and offshore construction projects.
